We were pleased that Jeremy Hunt highlighted the importance of the UK job market as it has never mattered more to the economy’s prosperity and growth.
With employment not returning to pre-pandemic levels, it is encouraging that Mel Stride and his team at The Work And Pensions Department will be trying to get to the bottom of why 630,000 people have left the workforce since the pandemic.
We also know that there is a sharp increase in adults who could be in the workplace, so it will be interesting to see the conclusions from Mel’s investigation.
We were finally pleased to hear that Sir Michael Barber has been asked to introduce a skills reform programme to ensure we are investing in students for employment in the future.
Overall, we need to boost the economy by getting more people into the workplace, tackle the skills shortage and to do this we need to invest in the generation of the future!
